Planners to weigh dog park proposal

The Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission will meet today to discuss the creation of a dog park in South Toledo by a group called Toledo Unleashed.

The group, which promotes chances for dogs to socialize off their leashes, has planned the park at the former South Toledo YMCA site in Woodsdale Park since 2009. The organization applied in June for a special-use permit for four acres.

The city has sent the group a tentative $1-per-year lease and a draft permit, which if approved by the planning commission will go to Toledo City Council's zoning and planning committee at 2 p.m. Sept. 11.

Comments can be submitted to the commission’s director, Tom Lemon, via email at thomas.lemon@toledo.oh.gov.
