    K. LaVerne Redden raises her Unity Cup with fellow attendees. The seven-day secular festival, which celebrates African-American culture and history, ended on New Year's Day. The activities included storytellers, musicians, and vendors. Kwanzaa means 'first fruits of the harvest' in the African language Kiswahili, and was founded in 1966.
