    Sarah McKether of Owens Community College Safety Service takes part in recent ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate) training at Owens in Perrysburg Township. Several area law enforcement officials as well as representatives from Sylvania and North Baltimore schools were among the participants. With the training they received, participants will be able to teach others about the ALICE program. Among those attending were members of the Oregon, Northwood, Perrysburg Township, Bowling Green, and Sylvania police departments. A free, one-day training program is set for today at Owens for organizations to respond to a large violent attack. It will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. in College Hall Room 99.

    Sgt. Doug Hubaker of the Northwood Police Department goes through training. The two-hour program today includes techniques to enhance traditional 'lockdown' procedures in the event of an intruder, including strategies to defeat a gunman. The training is offered through the college's office of safety and security. For more information, call 567-661-2100. Public safety, business and school officials as well as first responders interested in hands-on learning related to the proactive response to a violent attack on a large number of people are invited to take part.
