Lutheran Home to alter work, building
4/13/2011Lutheran Home at Toledo plans to renovate an existing building into 27 private skilled nursing and rehabilitation rooms, a $4 million project expected to be completed in spring, 2012.
Patients in the private rooms will receive physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other assistance after leaving a hospital, said Phil Amadio, director of admissions and marketing.
"These people typically come, get rehabilitated, and then go home or go to assisted living places," he said.
Lutheran Homes Society will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Labuhn Center project at 2 p.m. April 20 on its campus on the corner of Seaman and Wheeling streets. The building to be renovated is off Wheeling Street.
Lutheran Home at Toledo, which also has independent living apartments and long-term nursing home beds, already has semiprivate rooms for patients needing skilled nursing and rehabilitation, Mr. Amadio said. Those rooms will be converted into private rooms too, he said.
The East Toledo facility is adjacent to the former Lutheran Orphan's Home and St. John's Lutheran Church.
It is part of Lutheran Homes Society, founded in 1860, that serves youths and seniors at homes in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan.
