SHU honors Mary Mercer as outstanding undergrad

Siena Heights University in Adrian named recent graduate Mary Mercer outstanding undergraduate student at this year's annual spring honors convocation.

Ms. Mercer graduated in May from SHU's theater program, was on the dean's list throughout her college career, and received multiple scholarships, including the Sister Carmelina Leadership scholarship, the Performing Arts scholarship, and the Dean's Scholarship. She also received the Student Legacy award for leadership.

Ms. Mercer, the daughter of Bill and Mary Sue Mercer, graduated from Toledo Central Catholic High School in 2007.

During her college career, she was a member and served as president of both Alpha Psi Omega and Greek Council. She was also part of Kappa Gamma Pi, the national Catholic college graduate honor's society.

She was involved in several theater productions at Siena Heights and Croswell Opera House, including The Secret Garden, Macbeth, The Crucible, Fools, and High School Musical 2.

Ms. Mercer also assisted in piloting SHU's first peer-to-peer mentor program, worked with the Creative Stages drama program, and provided technical support for Madison Schools productions in Adrian.

Ms. Mercer will pursue a master's degree in higher education and student affairs.
