Superintendent of Schools Michael Zalar will answer questions about the Oregon district’s upcoming request for renewal of its permanent-improvement levy from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Clay High School library/media center.

The levy will appear on the May 7 ballot.

The 2-mill, five-year levy has been collected since 1968 and covers a variety of school expenses ranging from major building repairs and upgrades to technology, buses, and textbooks. The tax's revenue cannot be used for salaries.

District officials maintain the funding is vital for the district to maintain its services.

The levy produces about $1.15 million annually and costs the owner of a $100,000 home about $61 every year.

Mr. Zalar will provide specifics on how the levy benefits teaching and learning and what the district will do if it is not renewed.
