Deal OK’d to improve Buck-Lime City roads

Rossford City Council has approved a cooperation agreement with the Wood County Engineer and Perrysburg Township to improve the intersection at Buck and Lime City roads.

Final details of the $3.6-million project have not yet been decided. The project could be a wider, signalized intersection or a roundabout.

Eighty percent of the cost will be covered by a federal grant. The nearby Penta Joint Vocational District School also will contribute. Under the plan, Rossford must acquire a needed right-of-way; the projected cost is 350,000 to $400,000.

The vote last week was 6-1, with Jerry Staczek dissenting. He said he had heard from citizens who opposed the work and did not believe the city should commit to a project in which the final form is unknown.

Rossford will continue to buy road salt for the 2013-14 winter season through a participation agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation.

Council approved the renewal last week. City Administrator Ed Ciecka said the city plans to buy 700 tons of rock salt. The price has not been determined yet.
