Lima plant closure to cost 250 jobs

11/10/2005

LIMA, Ohio - About 250 workers will lose their jobs at the local home-products plant of H&C Milcor Inc. when it closes in January.

State officials revealed yesterday they were notified this week by the firm that the plant at 1150 North Cable Rd. will close. The company is owned by Hart & Cooley Inc. of Holland, Mich., which in turn is owned by the British company Tomkins PLC. Company officials could not be reached for comment.

Workers are represented by Local 778 of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers, and have been there for more than 20 years. The factory makes vents, registers, bath cabinets, doors, and other home products. The plant and one in Illinois had sales last year of about $47 million.
