Lima plant to work on 306 combat vehicles

4/13/2006

Three hundred and six Stryker combat vehicles will be made for the U.S. Army partly at the Lima, Ohio, tank plant, for an order valued at $464 million.

The work is part of a 2000 contract to provide 2,100 armored vehicles, of which 1,500 have been delivered. No employees will be hired. The latest vehicles are to be delivered starting next year, and work on them will also be performed at General Dynamics Land Systems facilities in Anniston, Ala., and London, Ont.

Stryker is a family of eight-wheel-drive combat vehicles that can travel at speeds up to 62 miles an hour on highways with a range of 312 miles. The program has a high priority with the Army.
