A Sandusky excavation company that was fined more than $250,000 two years ago for working in unprotected trenches has been hit by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration with another fine for a similar offense.

Speer Bros. Inc. was fined $28,000 for a willful violation of OSHA regulations after inspectors at a Sandusky job site April 25 observed unprotected walls of a trench used by workers. The company has been cited for similar offenses five times since 1982, OSHA officials said.
