April joblessness falls in SE Mich. counties

The jobless rate declined sharply in Monroe, Lenawee, and Hillsdale counties in April, with Monroe County falling below 10 percent for the first time in more than two years, the Michigan Department of Technology, Management, and Budget said.

Unemployment in Monroe County for April was 9.5 percent, down from 10.9 percent in March, and the lowest since November, 2008, the department said. The April jobless rate was 10.8 percent for Lenawee County, down from 12.1 percent in March, and was 10.4 percent for Hillsdale County, down from 11.8 percent in March.
