Ohio’s unemployment rate ticked up to 9 percent in July, up 0.2 percentage points from the June number of 8.8 percent, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services announced Friday morning.
The department said there were an estimated 529,000 people actively seeking work in the state in July, up from 517,000 in June, but 60,000 less than the 589,000 unemployed in July 2010, when Ohio’s jobless rate stood at 10 percent.
The U.S. unemployment rate for July was 9.1 percent, down slightly from the 9.2 percent rate in June.
