Area bankruptcy filings drop for 4th straight month

Filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in northwest Ohio decreased 8 percent in June, the fourth consecutive month that filings has dropped and the 21st time in the last 22 months.

The court, which covers 21 counties, recorded 521 cases last month, compared with 492 in May and 566 in June a year ago. The filings were the fewest in June since 2007.

Through June, a total of 3,076 cases were filed, down 16 percent from the same period last year. A total of 2,789 Chapter 7 liquidations have been filed through the first half of the year, down 15 percent from last year. There have been 278 Chapter 13 repayment plan cases filed, a decrease of 24 percent.
