Cedar Fair announces coasters, expansions

SANDUSKY — Cedar Fair LP on Thursday announced its new capital expenditures program for 2013 that will include the construction of two large roller coasters across its 11 amusement parks, including the $26 million GateKeeper “winged” roller coaster slated for its flagship Cedar Point park in Sandusky.

Cedar Fair said it intends to build GoldStriker, a 108-foot-tall wooden roller coaster at its California’s Great America park in Santa Clara.

Other projects include a seven-acre expansion of its Planet Snoopy children’s area at Kings Dominion in Doswell, Va., six new water slides at its Oceans of Fun water park at Kansas City, Mo., an enhanced Boardwalk area with three new family rides at Knott’s Berry Farm near Los Angeles, and Dinosaurs Alive! animatronic exhibits at Carowinds park near Charlotte and Valleyfair park in Shakopee, Minn.
