Local bankruptcy filings fall by 23% in March

Cases filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo fell 23 percent in March compared to the same month a year ago, according to data from the Toledo court, which covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio.

In March 529 cases were filed, compared to 688 cases in March, 2012. Filings were down 15 percent in February.

For the year, overall cases filed in the Toledo court total 1,279, a 23 percent decrease over the same period a year ago. Chapter 7 liquidation cases total 1,163 filings, a decrease of 14 percent from a year ago. Chapter 13 repayment cases total 109 filings since the start of the year, a decrease of 29 percent.
