Local bankruptcy filings slip 1% in April from 2012

Case filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo fell 1 percent in April compared to April, 2012, according to monthly data provided by the bankruptcy court's clerk of courts office.

There were 551 cases filed in the month, compared to 557 filed in the same month a year ago in the Toledo court, which covers 21 counties in northwest Ohio. There were 529 cases filed in March.

For the year, overall cases filed in the Toledo court totaled 1,830, down 11 percent from the year-earlier period. Chapter 7 liquidation cases totaled 1,660 filings through April, a decrease of 10 percent from a year ago. Chapter 13 repayment cases totaled 159 filings since the start of the year, a decrease of 24 percent.
