Seminar set to bolster cybersecurity for businesses

Local business owners and people who are thinking about starting a business are invited to a cybersecurity seminar Thursday at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library in downtown Toledo.

The free seminar, scheduled for 5-8:30 p.m., will feature Rick Kissel of the National Institute of Standards and Technology, who will discuss ways for businesses to keep their sensitive information safe. Such information includes payroll records, client or employee data, and proprietary information.

Mr. Kissel has worked in computer security for 20 years and writes guidelines for various federal agencies, including the Small Business Association.

Thursday’s event, which is open to the public, is sponsored by SCORE of Northwest Ohio and the library. Registration is required. Call 419-259-7598 or visit northwestohio.score.org.

SCORE is a national organization that helps aspiring entrepreneurs and small-business owners through counseling and workshops. Its local chapter has more than 40 volunteer business mentors who offer help.
