Officials at Hollywood Casino Toledo said they need to fill about 70 positions, the largest bunch of job openings the casino has had since it opened last spring.

The casino held a job fair on Monday for those jobs.

John McNamara, a spokesman for the casino, said asking people to come into the casino allows them to get a better feel for what working there would be like.

“They can actually see the different positions they’re applying for, if they want to see what a dealer does, or what a cocktail waitress does,” Mr. McNamara said. “It’s just a good opportunity for us to meet a lot of people and get a feel for what they’re interested in.”

When it opened, officials from Hollywood Casino Toledo parent company Penn National Gaming Inc. said the location would need about 1,300 employees. Mr. McNamara said officials hired slightly more than that to start. Employment has fallen since then to about 1,000 people.

“Now that we’ve been open a year we have a better understanding of what the business volume is and what the need is,” he said.

Mr. McNamara said the company believes that should be a fairly stable job number going forward. Officials said there are a wide range of job openings, from janitorial staff to card dealers and cocktail waitresses to leadership and management positions.

Penn National is not accepting any paper resumes. All applications must be submitted online at hollywoodcasinotoledo.com/careers, the casino’s Web site.

Because Monday’s job fair was on the casino floor, attendees were required to be at least 21 years old. However, officials said there are jobs that people 18 or older can apply for online.
