COLUMBUS — More gamblers were willing to roll the dice at Ohio’s four state-sanctioned casinos in July as the industry rebounded a bit over what had been shaping up as a summer slump.

Revenue after payouts statewide was up nearly 5 percent over June’s numbers, with Hollywood Casino Toledo’s slots-heavy casino a modest performer compared to its counterparts in Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus.

Penn National Gaming’s local casino had adjusted gross revenue of $15.4 million, up slightly — about 1.3 percent — from the $15.2 million reported in June but still below its spring revenue. The numbers were down significantly from the $19.1 million the Maumee riverfront casino took in during July, 2012, its second full month of operation.

Hollywood Toledo has the fewest table games — 80 — of any of Ohio’s casinos and, with 2,045 slot machines, trails only Penn’s Hollywood Columbus in the number of slots. Toledo also had the lowest slots payout of the four at 91.1 percent.

The revenue leader remained Horseshoe Cleveland at $19.7 million, which has 119 table games and just 1,849 slot machines.

In addition to casinos across state lines, the industry faces competition from a pair of racetrack slots parlors in the Columbus and Cleveland areas.
