Regional bankruptcy 
filings fall in August

Bankruptcy filings in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo totaled 455 cases in August, down 16 percent from the same month a year ago.

It marked the first time that the total number of bankruptcy filings have slipped below 500 in August since 2006, when there were 400 cases filed. It also marked the sixth time this year that filings have decreased in the 21-county area covered by the Toledo court.

Through Aug. 31, there have been 3,654 cases filed, or 397 fewer cases over the same period last year.

A total of 3,345 cases are Chapter 7 liquidations, down 9 percent from a year ago. There have been 296 Chapter 13 wage-earner repayment cases filed, a decrease of 20 percent from last year. There have been eight Chapter 11 business reorganization cases, compared to six last year, court data showed.
