Give today

Giving Tuesday began last year to counter the glut of post-Thanksgiving shopping

12/2/2013

Whether you started shopping after dessert on Thanksgiving Day, waited until Black Friday, or bought online on Cyber Monday, you can take a break today and give something back.

Giving Tuesday began in Toledo and other cities last year as a grassroots way to balance out the glut of post-Thanksgiving shopping.

The event keeps the giving part of Thanksgiving alive by emphasizing charity to needy Toledoans and other worthy local causes.

The Toledo Community Foundation and The Blade are sponsoring the local observance of Giving Tuesday. The goal is to send people to their computers or checkbooks and to support the causes that matter to you.

The Community Foundation’s Web site, toledocf.org, is a one-stop guide to 75 worthy causes registered as recipients on Giving Tuesday. The list starts with the After School All Stars and ends with the YMCA/JCC. It includes shelters, family services, food banks, abuse prevention, children’s activities, parks, arts, libraries, cancer care, hospice work, and environmental groups.

Look at this snapshot of caring in the Toledo area and please give. Your signature, or a few keystrokes on your computer, can make you part of the picture.
