The Medical College of Ohio has received a $103,853 grant to improve the diagnostic skills of medical students and medical residents.

The money will be used to set up an endowment, and interest income will fund expenses from the MCO Objective Structured Clinical Examination program. The program trains people to mimic various disease conditions. Students are then evaluated on how well they “diagnose” those patients.

The grant came from the Frederick M. Douglass Foundation, which is named after the late Toledo surgeon Dr. Frederick M. Douglass, Sr.
