OAK HARBOR, Ohio - The Benton-Carroll-Salem school district will ask voters for a property tax increase this fall.
The board voted Tuesday night to place a 4.8-mill, five-year operating levy on the Nov. 2 ballot. Treasurer Jeff Dornbush said the tax issue would allow the district to replace $1.5 million in lost revenue from a change in how the state distributes tax receipts from utilities. Mr. Dornbush said without new revenue or budget cuts the district faces a deficit of about $2 million by the end of the 2006-07 school year.
