Perrysburg: Masonry firm files suit against school district

10/6/2004

Riverside Masonry, LLC, a Detroit firm that did construction work on the new Perrysburg High School, is claiming that it is owed $1.85 million for the project.

A lawsuit was filed last month in the U.S. District Court in Toledo against the Perrysburg school district, Rudolph/Libbe, Inc., which managed the high school project, and Fanning/Howey Associates, Inc., an architectural firm.

The suit claims that inadequate planning of the high school construction caused Riverside Masonry to spend an extra two months on the project and accumulate an extra 20,000 hours of labor.

Walt Celley, attorney for the school district, said Riverside Masonry should not receive any additional money.

"They did not meet their deadlines and they're trying to blame other people for that," he said. "The likelihood is they're going to owe us."
