UT helping recruit staffers for overseas child-care jobs

2/17/2005

Officials at the University of Toledo, which has a Camp Adventure training site, are recruiting adults to help fill staff shortages overseas in U.S. military child-development centers.

Assignments would span either eight to 15-week periods and would come with paid travel to locations in Asia and Europe as well as stipends, paid housing, and weekends free.

Sammy Spann, director of Camp Adventure programs at UT, said yesterday that interested civilians must be at least 18 years old, have taken 30 college credit hours, and have experience working with young children.

Mr. Spann is hoping to place individuals, who will be trained once they reach their assignments, as soon as possible. The staff shortages have arisen from increased troop deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Camp Adventure is a non-profit educational organization that provides personnel for the U.S. Department of Defense. Those who are interested in the program can contact Mr. Spann at UT's College of Education.
