Rossford schools superintendent given 3-year extension

3/1/2005

Superintendent Luci Gernot received a new three-year contract from the Rossford Exempted Village School District during its regular school board meeting at the high school cafeteria last night.

Ms. Gernot, who served two years as high school principal before becoming superintendent three years ago, will receive a 3 percent pay raise annually from the $101,296 she is making now, said board president Joseph Minarcin.

In the last year of the contract, she will be paid $110,689.

The board voted 4-1 in favor of the contract, with David Kleeberger casting the lone no vote.

"I thought we should have looked possibly at a shorter contract," Mr. Kleeberger said. He would have preferred offering a two-year contract for Ms. Gernot, he said. He is the manager of the Christian rock band Pawn, which Ms. Gernot prevented from playing at a school anti-drug assembly in December. Four of the five band members have filed suit against the school district in federal court.

Mr. Kleeberger and his son, Kyle, a senior at Rossford and a member of the band, are not part of the suit.
