Antwerp High principal named superintendent

6/3/2005

ANTWERP, Ohio Antwerp High School Principal Mark Hartman will become the school district s superintendent Aug. 1, replacing longtime Superintendent David Bagley, who has agreed to become superintendent of the larger Central Local School District in Defiance County.

Mr. Hartman, 47, was given a three-year contract by the school board Tuesday.

He is to be paid $82,000 a year as superintendent, or nearly $12,000 more than the $70,040 he received as principal, but less than the $87,524 Mr. Bagley was paid this year.

During the same meeting, the school board made its elementary principal, Stephen Arnold, the new high school principal with a salary of $65,000. And it brought back as elementary principal Ray Etzler, a former Antwerp elementary principal who was laid off because of budget cuts and who took an elementary principal position in Defiance. He is to be paid $58,000.

The board did not advertise for resumes for any of the positions in the district of about 725 students, Treasurer Jane Limber said.

We just moved everyone up and brought Ray back, she said of the moves which were all made with 4-0 votes. Board member Rhonda Friend was absent.
