Workers yesterday continued to clean up Beverly Elementary School in South Toledo after the building was flooded by a water main break.

The school, at 4022 Ruby Drive, began flooding Wednesday afternoon.

The Toledo Water Department and crews from Toledo Public Schools were pumping water out of the building until after midnight yesterday, Dan Burns, chief business manager for the school district, said.

The building was empty when the main broke sometime between 3:30 and 6 p.m. It was reported by a passerby.

Mr. Burns could not provide a cost estimate for the damage, but he said the gymnasium floor was damaged and may need to be replaced, which could cost as much as $80,000.

Tiles and carpeting near the entrance to the building also were damaged, he said.
