Paul Sinclair of Whitehouse, a junior physics major at Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., has been awarded a Department of Homeland Security Scholarship of full tuition and a monthly stipend for nine months.

Renewable for the next year, it also provides a paid summer internship at a DHS-approved facility.

Mr. Sinclair is an officer in the Society of Physics Students at Rhodes and is also a designer and racer of radio controlled cars.

He was one of the top 60 drivers in the IFMAR Off-Road World Championships held in Italy this summer, and one of his cars is scheduled to appear in the November issue of the publication, R/C Car.

Amber Scott of Toledo, 2005 valedictorian of Scott High School, has received a $500 award, the Ben E. Williams/Scott Alumni Association Scholarship.

Amber is now a student at the University of Toledo, in the pre-med program.

James White, Jr., of Shumaker, Look & Kendrick, LLP, was presented the Silver Hope Award by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, in recognition of his personal financial support and community service.

Sherrie Gilchrist received the MS Achievement Award, which recognized her for accomplishments achieved in spite of the disease.

Both were honored at a Dinner of Champions held by the MS Society on Sept. 28.

Max Anderson, 13, a member of Boy Scout Troop 154 of the Sylvania First United Methodist Church, will be awarded the Eagle Scout rank at a court of honor to be held Oct. 8 at the church.

Max's Eagle project involved the designing and building of a bird feeding station, a small picnic area, and a native Ohio garden at the Black Swamp Bird Observatory's new headquarters at Crane Creek/Magee Marsh.

Max is an eighth-grade student at McCord Junior High.

His scout master is Allen Ellett.
