Rossford: All Saints plans for more first responders

10/5/2005

Plans are underway to certify five more adults to be first respondents should an emergency occur at All Saints School in Rossford.

Seven adults were certified as CPR and AED first respondents earlier this year after the school received a grant to buy one Automated External Defibrillator from the Ohio School AED program, said school nurse Cindi Lada.

She said the grant paid for one machine along with training for five people, which equaled about $5,000. School officials then qualified for another machine at half price.

Their share was paid through donations from All Saints CYO and CardioCare Consultants, Ms. Lada said.

Defibrillators work by giving the heart a controlled electric shock, forcing all the heart muscles to contract at once in an attempt to jolt it back into a regular rhythm.
