Restraining order leaves Cleveland charter in flux

The Lucas County Educational Service Center will have to wait until next week to try to get a temporary restraining order lifted.

A troubled Cleveland charter school, the International Preparatory School, last month persuaded Judge Ronald Bowman, who s retired from Lucas County Common Pleas Court, to stop the service center from voting to close the school s doors forever.

A hearing on arguments for a preliminary and permanent injunction scheduled for yesterday was rescheduled for Oct. 14 after attorneys for both sides met for over an hour with Lucas County Common Pleas Court Judge Gary Cook.

The service center met last month and had planned to discuss accepting a voluntary and permanent closure of the school, but the five-member board could not take any action because of the judge s ruling.
