Genoa loses treasurer to Huron district

The Genoa Area Local School District is losing its treasurer.

The board unanimously accepted the resignation of Mike Weis, effective Dec. 31, at its regular meeting yesterday morning because he was recently hired as treasurer of the Huron City School District. In August, Genoa's school board unanimously voted to allow Mr. Weis to retire and be rehired in the same job so he could collect his pension and a salary.

District officials paid him about $93,000 last year as treasurer and transportation director. His new salary was set at $70,000 because Mr. Weis said he expects his pension from the state retirement fund to be about $61,000.

The board will discuss its action plan for hiring a new treasurer at a workshop session Dec. 28.

Assistant Treasurer Lisa Cruickshank said she could help shoulder the responsibilities until the board decides on a plan.
