Penta board to consider teacher's fate

2/9/2006

The Penta Career Center Board of Education last night took the first step in terminating a teacher charged in Sylvania Township with receiving stolen property.

Paul Walter, a teacher in the auto body program for about 20 years, is accused of taking a registration sticker from a vehicle being serviced by the Senior Auto Collision Repair program and putting it on his own unregistered vehicle, Penta Superintendent Fred Susor said.

Mr. Walter was stopped for speeding Jan. 12, according to Sylvania Municipal Court records. An appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.

A resolution passed by the board last night states the board's intent to consider his termination. Mr. Walter has 10 days to respond and will face a hearing before the board, Mr. Susor said.

Mr. Walter was suspended with pay after the incident, and is suspended without pay as of today.

In other business, the board scheduled a special meeting for 4:30 p.m. Feb. 22 to award contracts for construction of its new building.
