Perrysburg schools report higher cash balance from taxes

9/19/2006

An increase in real estate collection from the first half of the last fiscal year has led to a higher cash balance for Perrysburg Public Schools.

According to a report compiled by Treasurer Matt Feasel and presented to the school board last night, the district took in $6.025 million in revenue last month, compared to $5.03 million in August, 2005.

Mr. Feasel said the main reason was that the school district collected almost $975,000 more in real estate taxes than it did in Fiscal Year 2006.

Board member Mark Schoenlein reported the district is currently within $3,700 in actual and projected expenditures.

In other board business:

•Perrysburg Digital Academy Coordinator Robert Falkenstein reminded board members the district's contract with the community school expires at the end of this school year.

He said Perrysburg schools would lose any technical equipment it currently has access to through the digital academy if the contract is not continued.

•The district will begin holding small community meetings to determine what it should do with the old Commodore School building at 7 p.m. tomorrow at Commodore. The meetings will run through Oct. 15, followed by a larger community discussion at Commodore on Oct. 19.

Board member Walt Edinger said to Superintendent Michael Cline the district should be careful not to put too much focus on the fate of the building and not enough on its 2.39-mill bond issue on the Nov. 7 election ballot.
