Toledo police are accepting applications from children interested in participating in Safe-T-City, a summer safety program for youths entering kindergarten in the fall.
The first of five scheduled eight-day sessions will start June 13, beginning the program's 30th year. Applications are available at the city's police stations and the school where the child is to attend kindergarten.
In the program, certified classroom teachers, police officers, and other speakers discuss topics such as pedestrian, bicycle, bus, electrical, fire, and water safety and the danger of strangers.
The children learn the lessons through songs, poems, art projects, stories, movies, and classroom experience. There is also interactive involvement with an outdoor miniature city complete with sidewalks, small buildings, traffic lights, and stop signs.
