The interim dean of the University of Toledo s college of arts and sciences has accepted a permanent job at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, commonly known as Virginia Tech.

Sue Ott Rowlands, an actress and theater professor, will become dean of the 28,000-student university s college of liberal arts and human sciences in July.

I m very, very sad to leave the college here, but it s just a fabulous opportunity, Ms. Ott Rowlands said.

UT will continue a search for its own arts and sciences dean, and expects candidates on campus in early April, said Rob Sheehan, UT s interim main campus provost.

An earlier search committee for the UT position named Ms. Ott Rowlands as one of its finalists, but the search was suspended because of the institution s merger with the Medical University of Ohio.
