The Sylvania Board of Education is seeking a replacement for George Gernot III, 59, who resigned effective Tuesday after eight years on the board. His term expires Dec. 31, 2009.

Mr. Gernot, a lawyer, and his wife, Luci, are preparing to move to Wood County. Mrs. Gernot has a new job as assistant superintendent of the Wood County Educational Service Center and must move to comply with the agency's residency requirement.

Applicants for the seat must be district residents and registered voters. Interested parties should send a cover letter and resume with references to Superintendent Brad Rieger by e-mail at sy.brad.rieger@nwoca.org, by fax to 419-824-8503 or in person at 6850 Monroe St., Sylvania.

The deadline for applications will be Thursday.

A new board member will be approved at the July 28 board meeting, Nancy Crandell, district spokesman, said.
