Terra college gets $1.4M for distance learning

FREMONT Terra Community College will receive a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand its distance-learning programs.

The grant will allow the college to hire the staff and buy the equipment needed to increase its distance-learning courses from 38 to 67, and its student enrollment in those courses from 527 to 884.

Some courses would be completely online, while others would be split between online and on-campus instruction.

The grant will be disbursed over five years.

This grant will allow us to systematically build our distance-learning programs into an integral part of the college, Terra President Marsha Bordner said. And that, in turn, means greater access.
