Heidelberg names new president

TIFFIN Heidelberg College s Board of Trustees Thursday announced the appointment of Robert H. Huntington as its next president following a nationwide search.

Mr. Huntington of Medfield, Mass., has 15 years of experience in higher education and 25 years of corporate experience. He served in management roles at Dunkin Brands Inc. for more than 21 years. For the last 10 years, he has been a member of the board of trustees at Lasell College in Newton, Mass., where he has been a member of several of its major committees.

Heidelberg College s former president, F. Dominic Dottavio, who had led the school since 2003, left in August to become the president of Tarleton State University in Texas.

James A. Troha, vice president for student affairs, has been serving as interim president.

Heidelberg College had been in negotiations with its top choice to serve as the next president in recent weeks. Three finalists for the presidency visited campus the week of Nov. 10, each spending two days. They met with the board of trustees Nov. 15 in Cleveland for interviews.

Heidelberg has 1,600 students. Its new president will see the college through the transition back to a university, which will take place next school year. The school was founded in 1850 as Heidelberg College, but was Heidelberg University from 1889 to 1926.
