Toledo Public Schools to facilitate students transition to new schools

2/23/2009

Toledo Public Schools has started a program to help students make the transition into middle school and high school, with McTigue Middle School students spending part of a day at Rogers High School.

It was the first of a number of Shadow Days being planned for the remainder of the school year.

Every student will get an opportunity to go and see what school is going to be like for them at the next level, said James Gault, the district s assistant superintendent of secondary education.

Much of the focus will be on clubs and activities. Students will be encouraged to take advantage of programs offered by Owens Community College and the University of Toledo.

The program differs from past transition activities, Mr. Gault said, in that it provides students and parents opportunities to visit buildings during the school day.
