Nearly 200 students and faculty members from Ohio colleges several in northwest Ohio were recognized yesterday as the first class of the state s Choose Ohio First Scholarship Program.
The scholars attend 36 of the state s public and private colleges and universities, including the University of Toledo, Bowling Green State University, the University of Findlay, Owens Community College, and Terra Community College.
The scholarship program encourages talented high school students in the fields of science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine to stay in Ohio for college. It is a $100 million investment awarded over five years, and the average award is $2.9 million.
The state hopes 10,000 college graduates will be Choose Ohio First scholars during the next five years.
