BGSU president finalists named

BOWLING GREEN - Bowling Green State University has selected three finalists in its search for a new president.

The candidates are William N. Ruud, current president of Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania; Mary Ellen Mazey, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Auburn University, and Gary L. Miller, provost and vice president for academic affairs and research at Wichita State University.

During the next few weeks each finalist will spend two days on the BGSU campus and will give a public presentation. The presentations will take place at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14, and March 16 in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theater (Room 206).

The university said it plans to make its selection by the end of the academic year. BGSU President Carol Cartwright will retire at the end of June. Ms.  Cartwright, who served as president of Kent State University from 1991 until 2006, was hired as interim BGSU president in 2008 when Sidney Ribeau resigned to become president of Howard University.

The trustees urged her to stay on and in January, 2009, voted to pay her $375,000 annually to remain president through June.
