This fall, 60 elementary students in Rossford will not have to relocate schools as expected.

At a short meeting Wednesday, the Rossford Board of Education announced it had overturned its decision to relocate students living on six streets from Eagle Point Elementary School to Indian Hills Elementary School. That decision had been approved by a 4-1 vote this month. It met with strong opposition from parents and children.

“There wasn’t a lot of time given [to parents and students],” said Jackie Brown, board vice president, who had voted no earlier. Parents said they were informed their children would be switching schools through letters received June 18.

The Rossford district faces an $800,000 deficit stemming from lower property tax collections, she said. Moving students from Eagle Point to Indian Hills would have saved the district $25,000 on transportation and helped reduce class size.
