Woodward wins federal grant
6/30/2011COLUMBUS -- Toledo Public Schools' Woodward High School will share in a total of $16.2 million in grants announced Wednesday as part of President Obama's Race to the Top program.
Ohio was awarded $400 million in competitive one-time federal funds last year based on steps taken to improve K-12 education. The second round of grants to 45 districts announced by Gov. John Kasich was part of the original $400 million.
Among northwest Ohio schools, Woodward High School will receive a total of $61,000 over three years -- $25,000 in the first year and $18,000 in each of the next two -- for a college-readiness program. Allen East Local Schools in Harrod would receive the same grant for a similar program.
Hicksville High School in Defiance County will receive $561,750 over three years, $187,250 a year, for a dual-credit program in which students earn college credit while in high school.
Van Wert Middle School-High School and LifeLinks Community School will share $750,000, $250,000 a year for three years, for its New Technology Network program.
