Lourdes awarded $50,000 grant
Funds to aid campus' main computer lab
12/14/2011The Stranahan Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant to Lourdes University benefitting its WIN (Windows for Intellectual Networking) Center.
The Sister Cabrini Warpeha WIN Center is the main computer lab on campus, available to students and alumni.
Funding from the Stranahan Foundation will support the purchase of two additional printers and 48 additional laptops for the WIN Center. According to Lourdes University staff, students and alumni may use computers, graphing calculators, video monitors, scanners, CD and DVD burners, and printers.
"On a typical day, the WIN Center is bursting at the seams with students accessing our computers, printers, and copiers, and taking advantage of the excellent tutors and coaches," said Robyn Gandy, associate dean of academic services. "In order to keep pace with the growth in enrollment, Lourdes must expand the WIN Center so that students can better access the services critical to their academic success."
Named in recognition of Sister Cabrini Warpeha, former vice president for academic affairs and current director of Lourdes archives, the center also provides tutors, academic coaching, and various workshops.
"The Stranahan Foundation gift comes at the opportune time as it allows the Center to service more students and expand our reach," said Tara Reineck, academic support center coordinator.
Additions are scheduled to begin in January, 2011, and continue through the spring semester.
