The Bedford Board of Education today unanimously adopted a preliminary operating budget for the 2012-13 year, which puts the district in a $1.4 million deficit.
The district is suffering from declining enrollment and a decrease in state aid, and has two deficit elimination plans pending review with the Michigan Department of Education.
One plan would eliminate the operating deficit over two years; the other over a four-year period.
In other business, school board member Kim Hooper announced he would be resigning from the board after the Aug. 2 school board meeting. Mr. Hooper and his wife are moving to Lenawee County.
