The new Port Clinton Middle School is set to open for classes on Thursday, with an open house planned for Nov. 10.

Superintendent Patrick Adkins said the construction firm told the district on Wednesday the facility, set on the high school campus, will be ready by that date.

Training for middle school staff is planned Oct. 22 to allow staff members to become acclimated to the building and its technology, as well as move and prepare classrooms, he said.

The last day of school in the current building on Fourth Street will be Friday(Oct. 19).

The new building is part of a $42 million project paid in part by the School Facilities Project and from proceeds from a 3.63-mill, 37-year bond issue voters approved in 2009.

In addition to the middle school, Bataan was remodeled and expanded into a preschool-to-Grade-5 building, and upgrades were made to the high school that focused on increased efficiency and long-term cost savings.
