B.G. to buzz with events for Earth 1st celebration

BOWLING GREEN — A week of activities will lead up to an Earth First celebration on April 21.

The celebration takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. at Bowling Green City Park and includes family activities and entertainment. Attendees are encouraged to take a picnic.

The celebration wraps up a week of activities that begin with a park cleanup and a garlic mustard-removal event from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Wood County Historical Center.

On Tuesday, the Bowling Green city utility department will host a storm-drain stenciling event, with participants meeting at 5:30 p.m. at the Kiwanis shelter at the Bowling Green City Park.

Bowling Green State University will host an Eco Fair in front of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Other events include a Bowling Green Community Earth Day event at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Montessori School of Bowling Green, 515 Sand Ridge Rd.

A park cleanup and removal of the invasive garlic mustard herb takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bradner Preserve.

Several Saturday events are scheduled, including a litter cleanup with 8 a.m. registration at BGSU’s Stroh Center south ticket lobby, a 9 a.m. to noon work day at Simpson Garden Park, and another storm-drain stenciling session from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning at Friendship Park in Lake Township.

Participants will receive a raffle ticket for each event they join, and a drawing for a prize will take place during the Earth First celebration.
