Toledo native to join Iowa State as executive

A Toledo native and University of Toledo graduate has been named associate vice president for student affairs at Iowa State University.

Martino Harmon, executive director of student success and retention at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, is to begin his new position July 6.

“Martino has extensive experience in admissions and enrollment management, student development, student activities, and diversity programming,” said Tom Hill, Iowa State’s senior vice president for student affairs. “He’s incredibly capable, with the background and leadership skills we need to accomplish the Division of Student Affairs’ goals. We’re excited to have him here.”

At Iowa State, he will oversee enrollment services, admissions, student financial aid, and learning communities, as well as budget and human resources for Student Affairs and the Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound programs.

Mr. Harmon held dean positions at Rhodes State College, Lima, Ohio, and at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor. From 1996 to 2007, he served in various leadership positions at the University of Toledo, including director of UT’s African American Student Enrichment Office, director of freshman admission, associate director of admission and multicultural recruitment, and an admissions counselor.

Mr. Harmon received a bachelor of business administration degree in 1987 and a master’s in education in 1998 from UT, and he expects to complete a doctoral program in higher education there this summer, according to a statement from Iowa State.
