Board names Woodland Elementary principal

Brook Price was approved by the Perrysburg Board of Education tonight to become the principal of Woodland Elementary on Aug. 1.

She will be paid $96,573 a year.

She began in the district in 2008, and is currently serving as the interim director of pupil services for Perrysburg Schools. Ms. Price's first four years in the district she served as the special education coordinator, and before that she worked in various districts as intervention specialist in Texas, Indiana, and Ohio, traveling with her husbandwho played minor league hockey.

Superintendent Tom Hosler said when she took the position of director of pupil services that she wanted to make sure it was an interim position because she wanted to work directly with kids. He said that impressed him when she passed up a big title and pay raise. 

“[Ms. Price] is highly organized, compassionate, and very dedicated to our mission of ensuring our students achieve their greatest potential," Superintendent Tom Hosler said. "She is a perfect fit for Woodland. Her mom was an elementary principal, it is in her DNA.”

The position opened up at the end of March when previous principal Dan Creps accepted the position as Rossford' Schools' superintendent. Bill McFarland, the former interim Rossford superintendent is finishing off the year as the Woodland principal right now.

“I'm thrilled to be recommended for the position,” Ms. Price said. “I love Perrysburg, my kids go to school here. I'm very invested in the community and children's growth.”

Mr. Hosler said Tuesday that the director of pupil services posit6ion will be posted and that no one has yet applied for the job.

Also at the meeting Sara Stockwell was named the assistant director of teaching and learning, and Kellie Johnson was named high school assistant principal both effective Aug. 1. Ms. Johnson is currently a fourth grade teacher at Woodland Elementary, and Ms. Stockwell works with the Ohio Department of Education's intervention program.

The board also announced Monday that it is receiving a $250,000 reading grant from the Ohio Department of Education to go toward Perrysburg Schools' third-grade guarantee early literacy and reading readiness proposal. Perrysburg partnered with the Islamic School of Greater Toledo and Maumee City Schools for the project.

The money will be portioned between the schools based on how many kids the district has. Perrysburg is using some of the grant money to send teachers in each elementary grade level to an Orton Gillingham Reading program this summer, Mr. Hosler said.
